The Book Custody – Danial spent several years putting it together and the purpose was to outline the trauma of divorce and custody matters and importantly the plight that fathers must go through to gain custody or access of their children. The effects it has on the children is also significant. Men are portrayed as the villains and the abuser in most domestic disputes and even pays a large part in divorce and custody matters. 1951 - Tragic Struck the Family

Danial's father worked day and night to provide for the family, he had a market garden near Pyramid Hill, 50 Miles from Bendigo, when Daniel was just 7 seven years old his father died at the age of 45 years, this was tragic and had a significant impact on the whole family and a huge burden for his mother to survive and look after her 13 children.

The Baptist Church
The Baptist Church Bendigo played a significant role in his mother’s life, she was raised as a Baptist she had strict beliefs, and she attended Church every Sunday and made sure that all the children attended Sunday School and took part in the morning service, - nicely dressed, and well presented with a bonus that she gave the children a penny for the plate, even though it may have been her last penny.
His mum was much loved by the church and well respected.
The Church rallied behind the family when Danial’s father passed away, at the time he was seven years of age, when the Welfare tried to take the young children away.
Then in Auckland many years later the Child Welfare played a role in the custody case, Danial Mason then recalled when he lost his father.
